How We Raise
Our Sheep

On gorgeous, rolling countryside situated between 8,000 and 10,000 feet in the Andes mountains, sits Pismal, our family farm. Pismal is surrounded by hundreds of acres of native oak forests, and miles of springs and creeks, which we work hard to protect.

Our sheep graze freely along massive green hills – they are never caged nor transferred to other farms. Our herd is currently a mix of Corriedale and Merino sheep, which produces soft, warm wool which is ideal for throws, ponchos and scarves.

Spinning

CARDOLAN wool is spun manually by our network of artisans, using a centuries-old technique practiced by generations of women. Spinning provides them an opportunity to earn additional income for themselves and for raising their families.

The Colors

CARDOLAN spun wool is dyed manually and we mostly use regional plant dyes from oak, walnut, indigo, artichoke, eucalyptus and lichens, just to name a few. For certain custom color needs or consistency, we use non-hazardous, low impact dyes.

Working the Wool

Once threaded on our original 4 or 8 point flat looms, we are ready to prepare custom blankets, rugs, ponchos, cushions, shawls and more…
